SKATEBOARDS, ROLLERSKATES AND SIMILAR WHEELED DEVICES

§ 13.78.010. Definitions.

As used in this chapter:

"Private property" means any property held by private interests which is used primarily for business, commercial or recreational purposes.

"Public property" means any property owned or maintained by the city or any property owned or maintained by a public entity other than the city.

"Rollerskate" means any footwear, or device which may be attached to footwear, to the bottom of which wheels are attached in any configuration and which may be used by the wearer in moving.

"Skateboard" means a board of any material which has wheels attached to it and which is propelled or moved by human, gravitational or mechanical power, and to which there is not fixed any device or mechanism to turn or control the wheels. (Ord. 98-O-105 § 1, 1998)

§ 13.78.020. Offenses.

  • (a) It is unlawful and subject to punishment in accordance with subsection (d) of this section, for any person utilizing or riding upon a skateboard, rollerskates or similar wheeled devices to ride or move about in or on any public or private property when that property has been posted as a no skateboard and/or rollerskate area.

  • (b) Prior to the enforcement of the prohibition on skateboarding and/or rollerskating, the property owner of the area so designated shall cause to be posted a sign which includes the following information:

Skateboarding and rollerskating is prohibited by PMC 13.78.020. Fines up to $150.

Such prohibition shall apply to the property so designated once posted in plain view on the property on a sign which is not less than 12 inches by 18 inches in size with lettering not less than one inch in height.

  • (c) The provisions of this section shall not be construed to prohibit persons from engaging in special events conducted and scheduled by the property owner, or to prohibit the property owner from conducting such special events.

  • (d) Any violation of this section is deemed an infraction, and punishable by a fine of $75 for the first offense, $100 for the second offense and $150 for the third offense.
