Chapter 10.24 — TRUCK ROUTES

It is unlawful for the operator of any moving van, dump truck, tank truck used or designed for the purpose of transporting petroleum products, or any vehicle designed or used for the transportation of commodities or materials, which vehicle exceeds a maximum gross weight of six thousand pounds, to operate the vehicle upon any street other than upon and over a truck route for any purpose other than to make a pickup or delivery, or to service or secure repairs to the vehicle. In traveling to or from the point of delivery, pickup, service to or repair of the vehicle, the operator of the vehicle shall drive as far as possible upon and over a truck route.

Nothing herein shall be construed to prevent the driving and operating of fire apparatus upon any streets of the city nor shall this chapter, by its terms, prevent equipment owned by the city from being operated upon any of the streets of the city. Neither shall this chapter by its terms be construed to apply to the moving of houses, buildings or structures upon and over the streets of the city. The provisions of this section shall not apply to:

A.

Passenger buses under the jurisdiction of the Public Utilities Commission and school busses; or

B.

Any vehicle owned or controlled by:

A public utility or licensed contractor while necessarily in use in the construction, installation or repair of any public utility; or

The holder of a franchise issued by the city for the removal of garbage, waste or refuse.

The council is authorized to determine and designate truck routes by resolution, which designation shall become effective when appropriate signs are in place giving notice of the designations to the public.

The following streets shall be designated as truck routes:

A.

Adams Avenue from Anchor Avenue to South Hills Valley Road.

B.

Sumner Avenue from one thousand two hundred ninety feet west of Anchor Avenue to Anchor Avenue.

C.

South Avenue from Center Street to South Hills Valley Road.

D.

Parlier Avenue from Anchor Avenue to one thousand three hundred twenty feet east of Anchor Avenue.

E.

Anchor Avenue from Adams Avenue to Sumner Avenue.

F.

Center Street from South Avenue to West Railroad Avenue.

G.

Hills Valley Road from South Avenue to six hundred sixty feet north of Adams Avenue.

H.

West Railroad Avenue from Center Street to South Hills Valley Road.

The above designations shall become effective when appropriate signs are in place giving notice of the designations to the public.
