18-24 Numbering System Adopted; Applicability Of Article

The system of numbering of buildings in the city and entrances thereto from the public streets and ways of the city, referred to in this article, is hereby adopted, and all entrances to buildings and enclosures from the public streets shall be numbered as provided in this article. 18-25 Duty Of Owners, Occupants, Etc., To Number Buildings

Any person owning, occupying or controlling any building erected within the city shall so number the same with the appropriate number and as specified in this article within ten days after its completion or occupancy. (Ord. No. 4 N.S., § 2.)

18-26 Manner Of Placement Of Numbers

The appropriate and regulation city number as designated by the city manager, in figures not less than three inches long, shall, at the expense of the owner, occupant or person in control of the premises or property, be placed in public view immediately above or immediately alongside of an contiguous to the doorway or other entrance to the building fronting the public street, which doorway or entrance to be so numbered shall be the main or principal entrance or doorway of such building from the public street.

18-27 Preparation Of Plats; Furnishing Of Numbers

The work of numbering the houses and buildings in the city as provided in this article shall be under the supervision of the city manager who will prepare the necessary maps and plats showing the correct numbers to be placed according to this article and thereby and therein designating the numbers and the location of the same respectively.

With respect to and for the purpose of ascertaining and designating the proper official city number to be placed upon buildings and at the entrance thereof, the city manager is authorized and directed to prepare a map and plat of the city which will designate, display and show the respective numbers to be placed upon the buildings and at the entrances of houses and buildings in the city, which map and plat and the numbers therein designated is hereby authorized and adopted, and the owner, occupant or party in control of any property is required to have the entrance to the building from the public street numbered and designated according to the official number served and furnished by the city manager, which notice shall designate the proper city official number to be placed upon the property under the provisions of this article. 18-28 Giving Of Notice To Comply With Article

In any case any building is not numbered, remains unnumbered after notice, is incorrectly numbered or the number thereof has become defaced or illegible, it shall be the duty of the owner or occupant of the same to do cause the same to be numbered correctly within ten days after notification so to do, given by or under the direction of the city manager or the director of public works. Such notice may be served personally on the owner or occupant or party in control of the property, or the notice may be served by leaving a copy thereof at the building in charge of any person apparently in possession thereof, or in the occupation of the same, addressed to the owner or occupant of the building, or the notice may be given by posting such notice on the door or at the entrance way of such building. Such notice shall specify among other things the correct number of the building. No person shall deface, remove or destroy any notice so posted until the building on which the same is posted has been correctly and properly numbered. (Ord. No. 4 N.S., § 4.)
