14.56.010 Nonappurtenant roof signs.¶
Nonappurtenant roof signs are not permitted. (Ord. 89-3 (part), 1989)
14.56.020 Design and construction.¶
Every roof sign, including its supporting structures, shall be so designed and constructed that it will safely withstand a horizontal wind load from any direction of twenty pounds per square foot of exposed surface in addition to its own weight, up to a height of forty-five feet above the ground. Working stresses shall not exceed those specified in the building code for the various materials. Every such sign shall have a factor of safety of two against overturning. In computing the resisting moment, dead loads shall be considered. No roof sign shall be supported by or braced by wooden beams or other wood construction of a building or structure over forty feet in height. (Ord. 89-3 (part), 1989)
14.56.030 Materials.¶
The advertising surface shall be of metal, or other incombustible materials, and the supporting frame shall be made of galvanized metal, except that footings may be of black iron, well painted to prevent corrosion, or timber, or of reinforced concrete or masonry; provided, that roof signs having a total height of four feet or less above the roof of one story buildings may be constructed entirely of approved combustible materials. Ornamental molding, battens, nailing strips and decorative trimmings may be of approved combustible materials. (Ord. 89-3 (part), 1989)
14.56.040 Location.¶
A. Except as otherwise provided in this chapter, no portion of the face of any roof sign shall be less than four feet, measuring horizontally, from the outer surface of any parapet wall, or from the edge of the eave, when it is part of the main roof structure and extends beyond the exterior wall.
B. No sign shall be placed on a roof in such a manner that any part is closer than six feet from the outlet connection of any standpipe. (Ord. 89-3 (part), 1989)
14.56.050 Height limit.¶
Roof signs and wall signs may not extend above the roofline, except that an appurtenant wall or roof sign facing the front of the building may extend above the roofline to a maximum height not greater than the maximum building height permitted without a use permit, in the zone wherein the wall or roof sign is to be located, as provided for in Chapter 17.16 of this code. 14.56.060 Area limit.¶
No roof sign shall exceed one hundred square feet in advertising surface. (Ord. 89-3 (part), 1989)
