2-8.01 - Policy and intent of chapter.¶
It shall be the policy of the City of Maywood not to discriminate in its employment and personnel actions on the basis of marital or familial status. Notwithstanding this policy, the City of Maywood reserves the right to reasonably regulate for reasons of safety, security or morale the terms of employment of persons who are related to public officials. In addition, the purpose of this Chapter is to mitigate against actual or perceived favoritism, bias and potential conflicts of interests created from the hiring, appointment or supervision by public officials of their relatives.

2-8.02 - Scope of application.¶
This Chapter shall apply to all elected officials in the City of Maywood, the Chief Administrative Officer and all department heads.

2-8.03 - Definitions.¶
The following definitions shall apply:
"Immediate family" shall mean a spouse, domestic partner, child, stepchild, parent, grandparent, grandchild, brother, sister, half-brother, half-sister, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, first cousin, parent-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, or any other person or individual related by blood or marriage.
"City official" shall mean any elected or appointed official of the City, the Chief Administrative Officer and all department heads.
"Contracting firm" shall mean a sole proprietorship, firm or business whose owner, owners, shareholders or principals are the immediate family members of City officials.
"Contractor" shall mean an contracting firm providing contract services to the City.

2-8.04 - Prohibition on hiring and contracting.¶
No public official shall appoint, employ or participate in the hiring, employment decision or the contracting of any person, employee or contractor that is an immediate family member nor use his or her position to influence another public official or City employee regarding a hiring, employment or contracting decision involving a member of the City official's immediate family.

2-8.05 - Supervision.¶
No public official shall directly supervise an immediate family member. This prohibition shall apply in situations where the employment relationship was established or formed before marriage.
