§ 2.34.010. Membership and compensation.¶
There is hereby created a Veterans' Commission consisting of seven (7) members who shall be appointed by the City Council. Residence or employment within the corporate limits of the City shall be requisite for membership on the Veterans' Commission. The City Council shall appoint three (3) members to terms expiring June 30, 1992, and four (4) members whose terms shall expire June 30, 1993. All subsequent appointments shall be for four years or until a successor's appointment is confirmed. Members of the commission shall serve without compensation.
§ 2.34.020. Organization of the commission.¶
Annually, the members of the Commission shall meet in regular session and elect from their membership a Chairperson and a Vice-Chairperson. These officers shall perform the normal and customary duties associated with these offices. Officers shall hold office for one year or until their successors are elected.
The Commission shall adopt rules and regulations to govern procedure and shall, by vote, set a time for regular meetings which will normally be held every other month and shall determine the manner in which special meetings may be held and notice given. A majority of the regular members shall constitute a quorum.
Minutes of the Commission meetings shall be filed with the City Clerk, and copies shall be forwarded to the City Council and the City Manager.
§ 2.34.030. Duties and responsibilities.¶
The duties of the Veterans' Commission shall be to do the following:
A. Act in an advisory capacity to the City Council, City Manager, and/or his designees in all matters pertinent to Veterans' memorials care and maintenance.
B. To plan and conduct events honoring Veterans.
C. Make recommendations for a long-range plan, including a list of priorities for enhancement to the Veterans' memorials.
D. Make recommendations for annual care and maintenance of the Veterans' memorials.
E. Make recommendations to the Public Works Director concerning preparation of the annual budget and capital improvement program as related to Veterans' memorials projects.
F. To sponsor fund-raising activities to allow for continued improvements and financing of Veterans' memorials.
G. To assist City staff in applying for funding, which may be available to improve and maintain Veterans' memorials.
H. To encourage and solicit monetary contributions and volunteer labor or expertise for improvement of Veterans' memorial sites.
