5.76.010 - Meals—Schedule of rates.¶
A.
Except as otherwise provided in Ordinance 4099 or in Title 6 of this code, or other salary ordinance, whenever the head of a department requires or permits any person employed in his department to reside or receive meals, or both, at an institution or other place of employment, such person shall be entitled to receive compensation at the rate provided in Title 6, or other salary ordinance, for the position held by such person, minus the reasonable value of the maintenance so furnished as determined from time to time by the board.
B.
Incidental meals, or meals furnished in addition to those provided above, shall be at the following rates:

Effective January 1, 1999, the rates will increase to the following:

5.76.020 - Vacations—Deduction for certain costs.¶
During vacation or other continuous absence from duty of more than two days with pay, no deduction shall be made from the compensation of any person who is required or permitted to reside or receive meals at an institution or other place of employment unless such person actually receives such maintenance.

5.76.030 - Meals and maintenance furnished by county—Conditions.¶
The following persons may receive meals, maintenance or other allowances without cost as may be determined by the department heads and subject to the approval of the director of personnel:
A.
Persons employed as students or trainees;
B.
Employees assigned to special duties away from their regular place of employment;
C.
Employees required to live on the premises;
D.
Employees required to perform overtime work at institutions;
E.
Members of any organized, uniformed auxiliary group performing volunteer services;
F.
Members of boards, commissions, committees or other groups or individuals while visiting facilities in an advisory or consultative capacity;
G.
Employees whose assignments or location of work are such that their receiving the above-mentioned benefits would benefit the county;
H.
Interns; resident physicians, M.D.; interns, D.O.; resident physicians, D.O.; dental interns; and dental residents while actually on duty or on call and available for duty.

5.76.040 - Deductions for meals made when.¶
Whenever any person employed by the county and residing on the premises of any of the county institutions avails himself of the opportunity to receive meals for himself and members of his family at any such institution, a deduction shall be made from his compensation for such meals in accordance with the provisions of this chapter establishing specific rates for any such deduction.

5.76.050 - Payment for meals required when.¶
Except as otherwise expressly provided in Ordinance 4099, Ordinance 6222, or other salary ordinance, whenever the head of a department permits any person other than a patient, prisoner or inmate, who is not employed in his department, to receive meals at an institution, camp, farm or other facility where meals are prepared and served, such person shall pay for such meals in accordance with the provisions of this chapter establishing specific rates for meals.

5.76.060 - Department of public works employees—Meals and lodging provided.¶
When employees of the department of public works who are assigned to work in localities where in the opinion of the department head, it is impractical to return to their homes each day and who may receive traveling expenses pursuant to the
provisions of Chapter 5.40 of this county code, may be allowed in lieu thereof, room or bunk and meals at public works facilities in addition to their regular compensation when so designated by the department head.

5.76.062 - Substitute housing in addition to compensation—Conditions.¶
Whenever Los Angeles County flood control district housing is furnished to any employee of the department of public works or to any employee of that department or his family, and such employee or such employee and his family are compelled to evacuate such housing because of construction activities of any kind, fire, flood, disaster, or other act of God, the department of public works shall furnish to such employee or employee and his family, as an addition to the salary otherwise provided for in this county code, adequate substitute housing for such time as such employee or such employee and his family are not able to use such original housing, but not for longer than such employee or such employee and his family would have been entitled to the use of such original housing. Such employee, during such period, shall continue to pay rental due for the original housing, but shall not be obligated to pay any additional rental for the substitute housing.

5.76.070 - Special examiners and subject-matter experts—Meals.¶
When the director of personnel approves one or more special examiners or subject-matter experts, to assist in an examination, meals may be purchased for each special examiner or subject-matter expert and reimbursement made to the purchaser in an amount not to exceed the meal rates set forth in Section 5.40.060.

5.76.080 - Committee on school district organization—Meals.¶
Each member of the county committee on school district organization shall receive, in addition to any other actual and necessary traveling expenses otherwise allowable, reimbursement for actual costs of meals incurred on trips in connection with the regular performance of his duties, not to exceed the amount specified in subsection B of Section 5.40.060 of this code, whether or not such trip is within the county of Los Angeles.
