5.56.010 - Maintenance allowance—No cash in lieu when.

Where by Ordinance 6222 or by any other ordinance, maintenance of any kind is provided, cash in lieu thereof shall not be allowed for any such maintenance.

5.56.020 - Postage, stationery, furniture and other supplies furnished.

Persons employed by the county shall be furnished, at county expense, with such postage, stationery, furniture and supplies as may be necessary in their work and as shall from time to time be authorized in accordance with law.

5.56.030 - Notarial service—Compensation.

Any person employed by the county who is required to be a notary public and who renders notarial service as a part of his duties shall be entitled to receive annually a sum sufficient to compensate him for the cost of his commission, seal, and annual premium on his notary public bond. All fees collected by any such person while acting as a notary public are to be deposited in the county treasury.

5.56.040 - Professional Dues Reimbursed When.

The County shall annually reimburse each person who is a member of the legal staff of the County Counsel, District Attorney or Public Defender departments, the full amount of his yearly dues to the State Bar of California. In the event any such person is in an employee representation unit in which reimbursement of such yearly dues is covered by the terms of a memorandum of understanding which has been approved by the Board of Supervisors such reimbursement shall be made in accordance with the memorandum of understanding.

5.56.050 - Elevator operators—License fee reimbursed when.

The chief, mechanical services and the director of military and veterans affairs may require guards or custodians of their respective departments to operate passenger elevators in certain buildings. Persons so assigned shall be required to procure an appropriate elevator operator's license. For obtaining such license, such persons shall be reimbursed for the initial fee as well as the annual renewal fee. Payment shall be made upon certification of the department head that the employee is required to operate elevators and possesses a valid operator's license.

5.56.060 - Certificates for in-service training programs.

Persons employed by the county who satisfactorily complete an in-service training program or course under county supervision and approved by the civil service commission shall be entitled to receive a certificate to that effect and which shall include the date of completion. The size and type of the certificate, depending upon whether or not the course completed is a relatively long on-the-job training course or a shorter training course, shall be determined by the director of personnel.

5.56.070 - Volunteer workers—Service pins.

Any person employed under Item 9950 (volunteer worker, without compensation) of county salary Ordinance 6222 who shall have served the county for 100 hours or more during one year of service shall be entitled to a service pin of the style and quality generally awarded for such service.

5.56.080 - Service, pins, badges, scrolls and awards of distinction—Award procedures.

A.

All persons permanently employed shall be entitled to receive pins or buttons upon completion of 10 years of service, and upon completion of each five-year period thereafter up to and including the 20-year period, in recognition of such service.

B.

Persons with service of 25 years or more may be issued photographs depicting the ceremony honoring their length of service.

C.

Upon retirement, employees may have issued to them retirement scrolls or reduced facsimiles of such scrolls, or both, and/or retirement certificates.

D.

All permanent employees, upon completion of 25 years, and for each five-year period thereafter, shall be entitled to receive an award of distinction, representing their many years of dedicated service. The purchasing agent shall, with the concurrence of the chief executive officer and the board of supervisors, select and purchase the award.

E.

Service pins may be issued to employees not covered by subsection A who, upon retirement, have 10 years or more of service.

F.

In calculating the length of county service under this section, all employment by any public entity shall be included.

5.56.100 - Retirement watches.

A.

All persons who have been employed by the county or by the county and by one or more public entities for the equivalent of 35 years or more of full-time service, upon retirement, shall be entitled to receive from the county, at such time, an engraved watch in recognition of such years of service.

B.

All persons who have served as members of any county board, committee or commission (other than the board of supervisors) for 35 years or more, shall thereupon be entitled to receive an engraved watch in recognition of such years of service.

C.

The purchasing agent shall select and purchase the watch.

5.56.110 - Award luncheons.

A.

Each county department or office in which an employee with service of 25 years or more is assigned, may organize and have a service recognition awards ceremony and luncheon to honor the employee.

B.

Awards ceremony and luncheon will be sponsored by Los Angeles County and administered by the county department or office in which the employee is assigned, pursuant to Section 5.40.470.

C.

Each county department or office shall be authorized to incur any necessary expenses related to employee service recognition awards ceremonies and luncheons for employees with 25 or more years of service.

5.56.120 - Special awards.

The chief administrative officer may grant the adjustments provided by Sections 6.08.335H and 6.10.073B to meet the needs of the service.
