Section 21207 et seq. of the Vehicle Code of the State of California authorizes the establishment of bicycle lanes upon highways, provided that such bicycle lanes be constructed to conform to the provisions of § 891 et seq. (“Bikeways”) of the Streets and Highways Code of the State of California. (Ord. 1363, § 1, 10/23/1979; Ord. 2351, § 16, 12/6/2005) 435-2. Establishment of Class I Bikeways. The following Class I bikeways are hereby established: (a) East side of Fischer Avenue (County Road No. 4L830) from the westerly leg of School Road (County Road No. A3L070) to Montana Road. (b) North side of Murray Road (County Road No. C3M020) from sixty (60) feet westerly of Daffodil Avenue (County Road No. 4M110) to U.S. 101.
(c) West side of Sagewood Way (County Road No. 4L992) from the prolongation of the north line of Lot 40, Tract No. 647, filed in Book 25, pages 48 through 51, of Maps, in the Office of the County Recorder of said County to the prolongation of the east line of Parcel F, of said Tract No. 647. (d) On Parcel F, adjacent to Sagewood Way (County Road No. 4L992) as shown on Tract No. 647, filed in Book 25, pages 48 through 51, of Maps, in the Office of the County Recorder of said County. (e) South side of School Road (County Road No. A3L070) from Ocean Drive (County Road No. C3L080) to Fischer Road (County Road No. 4L830). (f) West side of Washington Avenue (County Road No. A4L925) from two hundred twenty (220) feet north of School Road (County Road No. A3L070) to one hundred fifty (150) feet south of Oakdale Drive (County Road No. 4L928). The following Class II bikeways are hereby established: (a) Along both the east and west sides of Central Avenue in McKinleyville (County Road No. A4L800) from Post Mile 0.58 to Post Mile 1.80 (P.K. 0.92 to P.K. 2.85). (b) Along McKinleyville Avenue (County Road No. C4C925) from Post Mile 0.65 to Post Mile 1.70 (P.K. 1.03 to P.K. 2.30). Stopping or Parking of Vehicles Prohibited. No person shall stop, park, or leave standing any vehicle in a Class I or Class II bikeway, except for maintenance and construction vehicles permitted by the Director of Public Works. (Ord. 2731, § 5, 2/6/2024) 435-5. Motor Vehicles Prohibited. No person shall drive, propel or cause to be propelled any motorized vehicle on or upon any Class I bikeway except as follows: (a) Motorized vehicles legally operated upon a permanently constructed driveway that crosses a Class I bikeway, for the sole and limited purpose of crossing such Class I bikeway; (b) Motorized maintenance and construction vehicles permitted by the Director of Public Works;
(c) Motorized law enforcement, fire department, and ambulance vehicles; (d) Motorized vehicles that are otherwise lawfully permitted to use a Class I bikeway, such as battery-powered wheelchairs.
