2.18.010 - Authority of department.¶
As set forth in this chapter, the police department of the town shall have complete authority, under the direction and control of its police chief and the city manager, to perform any and all enforcement pursuant to this code, applicable state and federal statutes and regulations, and adopted policies and procedures, as necessary for the safeguarding of the lives and property.

2.18.020 - Officers and members.¶
The police department of the town shall have a police chief and other officers and members as approved by the city council.

2.18.030 - Police chief—Authority.¶
The police chief shall be the chief executive officer of the police department, shall be invested with the following authorities and duties, and shall be directly responsible to the city manager:
A. To control, manage, and direct all members of the police department and to detail any of them to public service, looking to the best interest and efficiency of the department;
B. To exercise command over the department and over all equipment of the department;
C. To safeguard life and property;
D. To make a complete investigation of each incident and to keep records as required or necessary for the completion of an investigation;
E. To maintain evidence and cause it to be secure for all ongoing investigations; and
F. To enforce all applicable laws and regulations.

2.18.040 - Investigations—Authority.¶
In accordance with applicable state and federal law, the police chief, or chief's designee, may at all reasonable hours enter any building or premises within the town for the purpose of making any inspection or investigation necessary to carry out the provisions of this chapter. The police chief, by the powers invested in the chief by this code and other applicable laws, shall make such orders as may be necessary for the enforcement of laws and regulations and for the safeguarding of life and property.

2.18.050 - Rules and regulations.¶
The current "Rules and Regulations Governing the Hillsborough Police Department," along with any subsequent additions, alterations, or amendments, are adopted as the official regulations of the police department of the town.
