2.16.010 - Authority of department.

As set forth in this chapter, the Central County Fire of the town shall have complete authority under the direction and control of its fire chief and the city manager to regulate, investigate and provide means and rules to prevent or reduce the hazards of fire or conflagration for the safeguarding of lives and property.

2.16.020 - Officers and members.

The Central County Fire of the town shall have a fire chief and other officers and members as approved by the city council.

2.16.030 - Fire chief—Authority.

The fire chief shall be the chief executive officer of the Central County Fire, shall be invested with the following authorities and duties, and shall be directly responsible to the city manager:

A. To control, manage and direct all members of the Central County Fire and to detail any of them to public service, looking to the best interest and efficiency of the department;

B. To exercise command over the department at fires and overall equipment of the department;

C. To cause all fires to be extinguished with the least possible danger to life and property and to prevent unnecessary damage by water at fires;

D. To see that the premises on which fires occur are left in such condition that they will not rekindle and cause further damage to life and property;

E. To make a complete investigation of each fire, keeping a record of and determining the cause, amount of loss to building and contents, and number and description of each building destroyed, together with the names of owners and occupants. All such records shall be public unless such records are a part of an ongoing investigation and subject to disclosure restrictions under law.

2.16.040 - Fire chief—Enforcement duties.

It shall be the duty of the fire chief, under the supervision of the city manager, to enforce nationally recognized standards and adopted model fire codes.

2.16.050 - Rules and regulations.

The current rules and regulations and policies governing the Central County Fire, along with any subsequent additions, alterations or amendments, are adopted as the official regulations of the Central County Fire of the town.

2.16.060 - Designation of fire lanes.

The fire chief or chief's designee shall designate any area of any roadway, parking lot, or facility or access drive as a "fire lane" when access through such area is reasonably necessary for the protection of persons and property from fire or other hazards. The chief shall notify the public works department and police department of each area designated as a fire lane. In the event that the area so designated is not located on a public right-of-way, the chief also shall notify the owner of the property that the designation has been made.
