10.36.010 - Findings.¶
The board of supervisors of the county of Calaveras finds that golf courses provide significant social, recreational, and economic benefits to the county, and in order to foster the convenient enjoyment of golf courses served by county roads, it is in the interest of the public health and welfare to adopt the ordinance codified in this chapter. The board further finds that only those county roads which are determined by the county road commissioner to be designed and constructed so as to safely permit the use of golf carts and other vehicular traffic shall be designated as golf cart routes by resolution of the board of supervisors.

10.36.020 - Purpose.¶
The purpose of this chapter is to establish the authority and procedures to allow golf carts to operate on county roads pursuant to Vehicle Code Sections 21115 and 21115.1 for the transportation of persons and golf equipment to and from golf courses.

10.36.030 - Definitions.¶
Whenever used in this chapter or any resolution adopted pursuant hereto, the following words or phrases are defined in this section:
A. "Golf cart" means a motor vehicle having not less than three wheels in contact with the ground, having an unladed weight less than one thousand three hundred pounds, which is designed to be and is operated at not more than fifteen miles per hour and is designed to carry golf equipment and not more than two persons including the driver.
B. "Golf cart route" means that county road or portion of road within one mile of a golf course which has been designated as a golf cart route by resolution of the board of supervisors as suitable for the driving of golf carts pursuant to this chapter.

10.36.040 - Signage.¶
The county road commissioner shall post signs advising which roads are within the approved golf cart route and further referencing this chapter and the existence of slow moving traffic.

10.36.050 - Golf cart equipment.¶
Unregistered golf carts operated within the golf cart routes shall be equipped in accordance with California Vehicle Code Section 24001.5 and any amendments thereto.

10.36.060 - Golf cart regulations.¶
A. This chapter shall not be construed to abrogate any section of Division 6 of the California Vehicle Code pertaining to the issuance, expiration and renewal of driver's licenses.
B. Golf carts operating within golf cart routes pursuant to this chapter shall not be required to comply with Division 3 of the California Vehicle Code pertaining to registration of vehicles and certificates of title.
C. Unregistered golf carts shall only be operated within the golf cart routes between sunrise and sunset.
D. Golf carts operated pursuant to this chapter shall only be operated on the golf cart routes for purpose of travel to and from the golf course and the usual place of storage or parking.
E. Golf carts shall not be used to carry more than the driver and one other person, nor any load other than the golfing equipment of the occupants.

10.36.070 - Violations.¶
A violation of this chapter shall be punishable as an infraction pursuant to Calaveras County Code Section 1.24.030.
