6.80.010 - Land uses or activities permitted within the agricultural zone district.¶
Identified on Table 7.A of Chapter 7 are those land uses or activities that may be permitted within the agricultural zone district, subject to the provisions of this title and applicable general plan's policies. Table 7.A also indicates the development procedure and the approval type by which each listed land use or activity may be permitted in an agricultural zone district.
A. Dairy;
B. Dairy stock grazing;
C. Livestock feed lot or stock auction or sales yard for hoofed animals;
D. Poultry, including hatching, breeding, butchering, processing, or shipping of chickens, emus, turkeys, or other fowl or poultry, including eggs;
E. Sheep, goats and hog farms.

6.80.020 - Permitted uses on each residential parcel located in the A or E zone districts.¶
A. The keeping of dogs shall not exceed a total of three per lot. All dogs within the city of Shafter shall adhere to licensing requirements as per state and local laws. The keeping of adult cats shall not exceed three per lot.
Temporary Permit. Upon council approval of this Title 6 ordinance revision, all persons within the city of Shafter who currently have more than the above limitations in dogs or cats shall have a three-month time period to contact the animal control manager and request a permit to maintain their animals at their current residence until such time as that animal expires. The animal must be presented for digital documentation as this permit will only be granted for the animal presented and may not be passed, transferred, or applied to any other animal.
Person must apply for a permit for a maximum of five dogs or five cats.
B. Nonadult animals are interpreted as being:
- a.
Cats and dogs six months or under;
b. Horses and ponies twelve months;
c. All other equine and cleft-hoofed animals, six months.
- Offspring born to permitted or conditionally permitted animals kept on any given site may be maintained on said site until weaned without being counted against the maximum number of animals permitted on the site.
C. The keeping of up to twenty domestic, adult household pets, other than dogs and cats, including domestic birds, tropical fish, rabbits, hamsters, rats, mice, etc., shall be permitted; however, will be subject to inspection for health and safety considerations by the animal control manager upon citizen complaint or other communications which indicate possible health, abuse and neglect issues. At the discretion of the animal control manager, this inspection may result in recommendations or requirements to uphold health and safety issues as may be presented.

6.80.030 - Standards that apply to noncommercial keeping of horses within the A and E zone districts.¶
A. No horses or ponies shall be kept on any lot with a net area less than twenty thousand square feet.
B. One adult horse may be kept on a parcel for each twenty thousand square feet of net lot area, up to a maximum of six horses or ponies or combination thereof.

6.80.040 - Permitted subject to consistency assessment.¶
This assessment is one which assesses any risk toward the general safety of Shafter citizens. The following require this assessment:
A. Beekeeping;
B. Beef cattle or livestock grazing.
