Shafter Municipal Code Ch. 6.84 Keeping of Animals— R-1, R-2, R-3 Zones

The following uses are permitted on each residential parcel in the city:

A. Three adult dogs per residence; three adult cats per residence. An adult cat or dog is defined as any dog or cat over the age of six months.

B. The keeping of up to twenty domestic, adult household pets, other than dogs and cats, including domestic birds, tropical fish, rabbits, hamsters, rats, mice, etc., shall be permitted, however, will be subject to inspection for health and safety considerations by the animal control manager upon citizen complaint or other communications which indicate possible health, abuse and neglect issues. At the discretion of the animal control manager, this inspection may result in recommendations or requirements to uphold health and safety issues as may be presented.
