Rio Vista Municipal Code Ch. 2.12 Volunteer Fire Department

There is established a fire department for the city. The fire department is established under the direction of the fire chief and subject to the general administrative direction of the city manager.

The fire department consists of a chief, paid fire personnel and such companies of volunteer firefighters as the chief shall determine and subject to approval by the city council.

There is created the office of the fire chief for the city. The city manager shall appoint the fire chief and exercise necessary supervision over the general operation of the fire department.

The fire chief shall be responsible for the supervision and control of all divisions of the department and for the performance of the functions herein assigned to the department. The fire chief, shall in the lawful exercise of his or her duties and subject to the provisions of the laws of the state of California, have all the powers that are now or hereafter may be conferred upon fire chiefs by the laws of the state of California and shall be entitled to the same protection.

The fire chief, subject to the approval of the city manager, shall have authority to establish and enforce policies and procedures for the administration of the department.
