15.52.010 - Numbers—Required.

All buildings having an entrance upon any public street shall be numbered as in this chapter provided.

15.52.020 - Numbers—Duty to designate.

The city engineer shall designate the respective numbers for buildings having an entrance upon any public street heretofore or hereafter dedicated or established in accordance with the provisions of this chapter.

15.52.030 - Numbers—Starting points.

Whittier Boulevard shall be the starting point and dividing line for numbers on streets running in a northerly and southerly direction; Bluff Road shall be the starting point and dividing line for numbers on streets running in an easterly and westerly direction south of Whittier Boulevard; and First Street and the prolongation thereof shall be the starting point and dividing line for numbers on streets running in an easterly and westerly direction north of Whittier Boulevard, excepting Acco Street, Washington Boulevard, Anaheim-Telegraph Road and Slauson Avenue, which shall be numbered as set forth in Section 15.52.050.

15.52.040 - Use of odd versus even numbers.

The numbers on the northerly and easterly sides of streets shall be even numbers and the numbers on the southerly and westerly sides of the streets shall be odd numbers, excepting Acco Street, Washington Boulevard, Anaheim-Telegraph Road and Slauson Avenue, which shall be odd numbers on the northerly side, and even numbers on the southerly side of the street.

15.52.050 - Methods of numbering.

A. Commencing with the respective starting points and dividing lines set forth in Section 15.52.030, the first even number shall be one hundred and the first odd number shall be one hundred one, and the numbering shall be progressive within each block allowing approximately twenty-five feet of frontage for each number. At the beginning of each successive block, the numbering shall recommence with the next succeeding multiple of one hundred, except Acco Street, Washington Boulevard, Anaheim-Telegraph Road and Slauson Avenue, which shall be numbered as follows:

  1. Acco Street. Beginning with number 6823 on the northerly side of the street and number 6824 on the southerly side of the street at the westerly city limits, numbers shall increase easterly and uniformly to number 6927, on the north side, and Vail Avenue.

  2. Washington Boulevard. Beginning with number 6865 on the northerly side of the street, and number 6868 on the southerly side of the street at the westerly city limits, numbers shall increase easterly and uniformly to number 6927, on the northerly side, and number 6928, on the southerly side of the street, at the westerly line of Vail Avenue.

  3. Anaheim-Telegraph Road. Beginning with number 7101 on the northerly side of the street, at the westerly city limits, numbers shall increase easterly and uniformly to number 7821 at the easterly city limits.

  4. Slauson Avenue: Beginning with number 8000 on the southerly side of the street at the southwesterly city limits, numbers shall increase northeasterly on the northerly side of the street, at the westerly city limits.

B. The city engineer shall designate the point of commencement of each block for the purposes of this chapter.

15.52.060 - Numbers required on buildings.

A. Residential Property. Every person who owns, or who is in possession of any building located on a lot classified, pursuant to Title 17 of this code, in zone R-A, R-1, R-2, R-3 or R-4, shall place thereon the appropriate street number therefor, assigned by the city engineer pursuant hereto, as provided in Section 15.08.100 (B) (5).

B. C and M Zoned Properties. Every person who owns, or who is in possession of, any building located on a lot which is classified, pursuant to Title 17 of this code, in a zone other than those referred to in subsection A of this section, shall, within ninety days from and after the date of the adoption of this section, place and maintain on such building the appropriate street number therefor, assigned by the city engineer pursuant hereto, as provided in Section 15.08.110 (L) (1).

15.52.070 - Other numbers prohibited.

No person shall place or permit to remain upon any building belonging to him or in his possession or control any street number other than the appropriate number designated for the building pursuant to this chapter.
