Manhattan Beach Municipal Code Ch. 4.84 Miscellaneous Offenses—discharging Weapons

It shall be unlawful for any person to shoot, fire, or discharge any gun, pistol, or other firearm or any air gun or slingshot, bow and arrow, or any other type of gun or weapon within the City without first having obtained a written permit from the Chief of Police so to do. The fee for a permit issued under this section shall be established by Council under separate resolution.

The provisions of Section 4.84.010 shall not apply to or affect:

A. Sheriffs, constables, marshals, policemen, or other duly appointed peace officers;

B. Any person summoned by an officer to assist in making arrests or preserving the peace while such person so summoned is actually engaged in assisting such officer;

C. Members of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, National Guard, or any member of the armed forces of the United States or of the State when on duty;

D. Guards, messengers, or employees of common carriers for banks and other financial institutions while actually employed in and about the shipment, transportation, or delivery of any money, jewelry, bullion, bonds, or other things of value within the State;

E. Members of any club or organization organized for the purpose of practicing at targets upon established target ranges, whether public or private, while such members are using any of the firearms or other weapons referred to in Section 4.84.010 upon such target ranges; or

F. A person lawfully protecting himself, any member of his family, or his property, or his family's property at his home or store, or wherever such property might be situated.
