Sec. 8.250. Purpose Defined.¶
It is deemed desirable to establish and maintain such a Department pursuant to the provisions set forth in this chapter in order to provide for the proper planning, coordination, direction and management of various activities and services provided by the City to persons with disabilities.
The Department shall on behalf of the City:
(a) propose, develop and implement programs for persons with disabilities established by the Mayor and the City Council for the
purpose of addressing issues of concern to persons with disabilities and improving the quality of life for persons with disabilities;
(b) develop grant funded projects to serve all City residents with disabilities;
(c) administer and oversee programs, services and activities funded by Federal and State grants, City appropriations and other
sources of funds, whether private or governmental;
(d) Plan and coordinate programs and activities for persons with disabilities which may be implemented by and through the
cooperation of other City departments;
(e) provide information and referral services to persons with disabilities;
(f) implement Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act including completing the City’s Self Evaluation and Transition Plan;
providing training and technical assistance to all City departments on compliance with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act;
monitoring the City’s compliance with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act; and maintaining a procedure for resolving
grievances filed pursuant to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.;
(g) provide technical assistance to departments and employees on the availability and use of adaptive technology and obtain
adaptive technology for use by City employees;
(h) provide training, job development and placement of persons with disabilities into the private and public sectors; and
(i) provide administrative support for the Commission on Disability;
