10.68.050 Penalty for Violation.¶

10.68.010 Regulation of Speed by Traffic Signals.¶
The City Traffic Engineer is authorized to regulate the timing of traffic signals so as to permit the movement of traffic in an orderly and safe manner at speeds slightly at variance from speeds otherwise applicable within the district or intersections, and shall erect appropriate signs giving notice thereof. 10.68.020 Authority.¶
Pursuant to Vehicle Code Section 22358, the City Council has determined that the prima facie speed limits of twenty-five (25) miles per hour (mph) for City streets in residence or business districts, fifty-five (55) mph for two- lane undivided highways and sixty-five (65) mph for all other highways are more than is reasonable or safe on certain City streets where such limits would otherwise be applicable. 10.68.030 Decrease of Local Limits.¶
In order to facilitate the orderly movement of traffic at a reasonable and safe speed, the following speed limits are established based on engineering and traffic surveys for the streets listed within the termini indicated.
A. Diane Lane – William Avenue to Midway Road, fifteen (15) mph.
B. Heather Way – Chanticleer Avenue to Diane Lane, fifteen (15) mph.
C. Madrone Avenue – Magnolia Avenue to terminus, fifteen (15) mph.
D. Sir Francis Drake Boulevard – City limits west to U.S. 101, forty (40) mph.
E. Sir Francis Drake Boulevard East – U.S. 101 to City limits east, forty (40) mph.
F. William Avenue – Holcomb Avenue to easterly terminus, twenty (20) mph.

10.68.040 Signs Erected to Designate Speed Limits.¶
The City Traffic Engineer is directed to have signs erected upon the street at appropriate locations giving notice of the limits established in Larkspur Municipal Code Section 10.68.030. 10.68.050 Penalty for Violation.¶
Any person violating the prima facie speed limits established in Larkspur Municipal Code Section 10.68.020 is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, is punishable by a fine not to exceed five hundred dollars ($500.00) or by imprisonment in the County Jail of Marin County for not more than six (6) months, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
