2.52.010 - Duty of finder.¶
It is made the duty of all officers and employees of the city whenever they find within the corporation limits of the city, or whenever there comes into their possession any personal property which such finder or possessor has reason to believe may have been stolen, lost, or abandoned, to deliver the same to the chief of police.

2.52.020 - Return to owner.¶
It shall be the duty of the chief of police to take charge of and keep in his possession said property as described in Section 2.52.010, and he must within a reasonable time inform the owner thereof, if known, and make restitution to him of such property upon demand without compensation.

2.52.030 - Auction.¶
Should any such property as described in Section 2.52.010 remain unclaimed by its true owner for a period of six months from the date of finding, the chief of police is authorized and required to cause the same to be sold at public auction to the highest bidder.

2.52.040 - Notice of sale.¶
Notice of such sale as described in Section 2.52.030 shall be given by the chief of police at least five days before the time fixed therefor, and published in a newspaper of general circulation in the county, together with a schedule of the property to be offered for sale.

2.52.050 - Disbursement of proceeds.¶
Immediately after the completion of any such sale as provided by Section 2.52.030, the chief of police shall give to the city treasurer a statement of the proceeds thereof together with the expense incurred in concluding such sale. The chief of police shall forthwith pay such proceeds to the city treasurer and the city treasurer, after deducting the necessary expenses actually incurred, shall deposit the balance thereof in the general fund.

2.52.060 - Disposition of unsold personal property.¶
If there are no bids for any such property offered for sale at the auction provided for by Section 2.52.030, the property shall again be offered for sale together with other such unclaimed property at the next auction sale. If the property is not sold at the second auction sale, the chief of police may make such disposition thereof in the public interest as he deems fit.

2.52.070 - Exceptions.¶
The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to property subject to confiscation under state or federal law.
