§ 2.52.010. Definitions.

For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply:

"Director"

means the director of museum activities appointed by the board of supervisors to head the museum department and administer county policy as set by the board of supervisors or a representative designated by him;

"Museum"

includes any building owned or leased by the county housing historical or scientific artifacts, arranged as exhibits or stored for museum purposes, and includes any property on which an exhibit or where articles are stored, whether under cover or exposed to the open air.

§ 2.52.020. Director.

The operation and maintenance of the county museum and all its adjuncts shall be under control of the director subject to the supervision of the board of supervisors, the director, or any person appointed by the director who, from time to time with the advice and consent of the board of supervisors, shall be responsible for carrying out the provisions of this chapter and any other county ordinance or resolution to the best of his ability, and shall initiate appropriate action in the case of any violation of any county policy.

§ 2.52.030. Advisory committee.

The board of supervisors may appoint a committee composed of members to be chosen by the board to advise the director and recommend policies and procedures for the efficient and orderly acquisition and display of historical artifacts and to advise the director concerning museum activities in general. The committee shall be advisory only, it being within the function of the board of supervisors to set policy. The director is responsible to the board of supervisors, but he is encouraged to seek the advice of any advisory committee appointed by the board in order to insure a broad base of cooperation and understanding by and between the museum and the interested citizens of Inyo County. The members of the advisory committee, if one is appointed, shall hold committee membership at the will of the board of supervisors, and the number and composition of committee memberships shall be determined by the board and may be changed from time to time as the board sees fit.

§ 2.52.040. Powers of the board of supervisors.

The board of supervisors may appropriate and expend funds, acquire and manage real property, acquire and maintain a library in furtherance of objects of the museum, purchase, collect, trade, exchange or otherwise acquire exhibition or study material proper or necessary for the use of the museum, may sell land or exchange material according to the established customs of museums, and do whatever else is necessary for the proper conduct of a museum pursuant to Division 5, Chapter 2, Article 2 of the Public Resources Code of the state, and may delegate to the director any authority necessary to effectuate the proper conduct of a museum.
