Sec. 11-71. - Required.

It shall be unlawful for any person to work as or be employed as a food handler in a food establishment without having first obtained a food handler's certificate of registration; provided, however, that if any food handler holds a valid and unexpired certificate of registration issued by the county under and pursuant to any county ordinance now or hereafter in effect pertaining to registration of food handlers, such food handler shall not be required to obtain the certificate of registration required in this section and such certificate, while valid and in effect, shall be deemed sufficient to comply with the provisions of this division in that respect.

Sec. 11-72. - Persons employed by, etc., certain nonprofit organizations.

Any applicant under the provisions of section 11-73 who is employed by or who prepares or dispenses, either or both, food on behalf of an organization which is exempt from taxation as a nonprofit organization within any of the provisions of section 2301 of the California Revenue and Taxation Code shall be exempt from the payment of the fee of two dollars ($2.00), but shall nevertheless be required to apply for and obtain the certificate of registration required by section 11-71.

Sec. 11-73. - Report to health department; application for certificate generally.

It shall be the duty of every person before he acts as a food handler, in a food establishment, or within forty-eight (48) hours thereafter, to report to the office of the city health department and to apply for a food handler's certificate of registration as required in section 11-71.

Sec. 11-74. - Submission of evidence of physical examination.

All persons who apply for a certificate of registration, pursuant to section 11-73, shall submit satisfactory evidence of a recent physical examination, including blood serology, x-ray of chest by a licensed physician, and routine examination of the stool for the presence of parasites and the ova of parasites, indicating no infections of a communicable disease; provided, however, that if the governing body of any school district has provided for the physical examination of food handlers in any school cafeteria under its jurisdiction and in the opinion of the health officer such examination complies with the provisions of this division and is sufficient to protect the patrons of such school cafeteria, the health officer may accept such examination in lieu of the examination provided for in this section.

Sec. 11-75. - Fee generally; issuance.

Upon submission of evidence of physical examination, as provided in section 11-74, and payment, except as provided in section 11-72, of a fee of two dollars ($2.00), a food handler's certificate of registration, as required by this division, shall be issued to the applicant.

Sec. 11-76. - Transfer.

Certificates of registration as required by section 11-71 shall not be transferable.

Sec. 11-77. - Replacement upon loss.

Any food handler who has lost his certificate of registration, required under section 11-71, before the expiration date thereof may obtain a copy of such certificate from the health officer upon payment of a fifty cents ($0.50) fee. Such copy shall expire on the same date provided for expiration in the original certificate.

Sec. 11-78. - Revocation.

A certificate of registration as required by section 11-71 shall be revocable by the city health officer whenever the holder of such certificate becomes infected with a communicable disease.

Sec. 11-79. - Term.

A certificate of registration as required by this section 11-71 shall be good for one year from the date of issuance.
