Chapter 11 — FOOD AND FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS

Sec. 11-1. - Definitions.¶
For the purposes of this chapter, the following words and phrases shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in this section:
Food. The word "food" shall be taken to mean any substance eaten or drunk for nourishment or refreshment of the body whether such food be in storage, in process or preparation, or ready to serve.
Food establishment. The term "food establishment" shall be taken to mean and include every restaurant, lunchroom, tearoom, soda fountain, buffet, grillroom, lunch-counter, sandwich stand, dining room, coffee shop, public boardinghouse, hotel, club, beer parlor, cocktail lounge and every other place where food or drinks are prepared to be consumed by the public on the premises and all kitchens, commissaries and other rooms appurtenant thereto or connected therewith, as well as itinerant vendors of food and places where sandwiches, lunches, box lunches and unpackaged foods are prepared or dispensed, or both, for sale or gift to the public.
Food handler. The term "food handler" shall be taken to mean and include any person, other than a domestic servant, who engages or serves in any work, occupation or employment which requires or occasions the handling of any food or drink for human consumption or the handling of any dishes other than articles used in the preparation or service of such food or drink.
Operator. The word "operator" shall mean any person, whether the owner or not, engaged in managing or supervising the dispensing or the preparation of food in a food establishment.
