2.22.010 - Designation as peace officers.

Pursuant to the provisions of Section 832.6 (3) (b) of the California Penal Code all reserve officers of the Delano Police Department who have been issued a Level I reserve officer certification prior to January 1, 1981, are determined to be qualified to perform general law enforcement duties by reason of their training and experience and are designated as peace officers and shall have the full powers and duties of peace officers as provided in Section 830.1 of the California Penal Code.

2.22.020 - Classifications.

In accordance with California Penal Code Section 830.6, appointment will be to one of four classifications of a reserve officer.

A. Designated Level I. Any officer granted this classification has peace officer status twenty-four hours a day, under Penal Code Section 830.1, providing the officer has met the training and education requirements set forth in the California Penal Code.

B. Level I. Any officer granted this classification has a peace officer status while on duty under Penal Code Section 832.6A-1, providing the officer has met the training and education requirements set forth in the California Penal Code.

C. Level II. Any officer granted this classification has a peace officer status while on duty under Penal Code Section 832.6A-2, providing the officer has met the training and education requirements set forth in the California Penal Code.

D. Level III. Any officer granted this classification has peace officer status while on duty under Penal Code Section 832.6A-3, providing the officer has met the training and education requirements set forth in California Penal Code.

2.22.030 - Appointment.

The chief of police is authorized to maintain a reserve police force and may appoint persons to the position of reserve police officer who meet the standard qualification formats as set by the Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST), and the department's rules and regulations. Such reserve officers shall serve at the pleasure of the chief of police.
