2.61.010 Created--Director of Planning and Development Department.¶
A Planning and Development Department is created which shall be under the direction of the Director of Planning and Development. (Ord. 6290-NS § 1 (part), 1995; Ord. 6065-NS §§ 1, 2, 1991)
2.61.020 Composition.¶
The Planning and Development Department shall consist of:
A. The Office of the Director;
B. The Land Use Planning Division;
C. The Building and Safety Division;
D. The Office of Energy and Sustainability;
E. The Redevelopment Division;
F. The Permit Service Center Division;

2.61.030 Director of Planning and Development--Control and supervisory authority.¶
The Director of Planning and Development shall be responsible for the supervision and control of all divisions of the department and for the performance of the functions herein assigned to the department. (Ord. 6290-NS § 1 (part), 1995; Ord. 6065-NS §§ 1, 2, 1991)
2.61.040 Functions.¶
The functions of the Planning and Development Department shall include:
A. Facilitating the Berkeley community’s efforts to plan and control its physical, social and environmental future.
B. Developing plans and policies with the community, and reviewing and processing permit applications under established standards with designated citizen bodies.
C. Ensuring that Berkeley buildings are properly constructed and preserved in accordance with safety and quality standards. (Ord. 6384-NS § 2 (part), 1997; Ord. 6290-NS § 1 (part), 1995; Ord. 6065-NS §§ 1, 2, 1991)
2.61.050 Persons authorized to act when Director of Planning and Development absent or disabled.¶
In the case of absence or disability of the Director of Planning and Development, the City Manager shall designate a member of the department to exercise the powers of the Director of Planning and Development. (Ord. 6290-NS § 1 (part), 1995; Ord. 6065-NS §§ 1, 2, 1991)
