2.16.010 - Powers and duties generally.¶
In addition to such other duties as may be required by law and ordinances of the city, it shall be the duty of the chief of police to make a report to the board of trustees at each regular meeting, for the month immediately preceding, showing the arrests made by his or her deputies. He or she shall have charge of the City Hall, jail and engine room, and all other public buildings and property belonging to the city, and shall keep the same in order, and whenever required, report their condition to the city council. He or she shall attend all fires occurring within the city, and shall aid in the extinguishing thereof. He or she may command the assistance of any person or persons present at such fire in aid of his or her duties; and, in the absence of the chief and assistant chief of the fire department, he or she shall have power and authority to pull down or blow up any building, or part of any building, when such demolition is necessary to prevent the expansion of such fire.
