Sec. 8-9.201. Adoption of Uniform Sign Code.¶
That certain Code designated as the “Uniform Sign Code,” 1997 Edition, published by the International Conference of Building Officials, at least one copy of which is on file in the office of the City Clerk for public record and inspection, is hereby adopted by reference and made a part of this article as though set forth in this article in full, subject, however, to the amendments, additions and deletions set forth in this Article, and said Code shall be known as the Sign Code for the City.

Sec. 8-9.202. Purpose.¶
The purpose of said Sign Code is to provide minimum standards to safeguard life, health, property and public welfare by regulating and controlling the design, quality of materials, construction, location, electrification and maintenance of all signs and sign structures not located within a building.

Sec. 8-9.203. Amendments: Section 301: Permits.¶
Section 301 of the Sign Code is amended to read as follows:
301 Permits Required. A sign shall not hereafter be erected, re-erected, constructed, altered or maintained, except as provided by this code and after a permit for the same has been issued by the building official. A separate permit shall be required for a sign or signs for each business entity, and a separate permit shall be required for each group of signs on a single supporting structure. In addition, electrical permits shall be obtained for electric signs.
For the purposes of this chapter, wherever the term “sign permit” is used, it shall mean “building permit” for sign construction, alteration or maintenance.

Sec. 8-9.204. Amendments: Section 304: Fees.¶
Section 304 of the Sign Code is amended to read as follows:
304 Fees. A sign permit fee and a plan review fee shall be paid in accordance with the fee schedule as established by resolution of City Council for building permit fees.

Sec. 8-9.205. Amendments: Section 401: Design.¶
The Council, after due consideration, finds and determines that, due to local conditions, including unusual soil, wind and geological conditions prevailing within the City, the public health and welfare would best be served by requiring that subsection 401.2 be hereby amended to read as follows:
401 Design.
401.2 Wind Loads. Signs and sign structures shall be designed and constructed to resist wind forces as specified in Chapter 23 of the California Building Code.
EXCEPTION: The wind pressure to be used in the design and construction of signs regulated under the Uniform Sign Code shall be not less than twenty (20) pounds per square foot.

Sec. 8-9.206. Violations.¶
Any person, firm, company or corporation violating any of the provisions of this article or said Sign Code shall be deemed guilty of a violation of this Code pursuant to Section 1-2.01 of Chapter 2 of Title 1 of this Code.
