Sec. 8-18.01. Adoption of the California Wildland-Urban Interface Code.¶
That certain Code, designated as the “California Wildland-Urban Interface Code”, 2025 Edition, based upon the International Wildland-Urban Interface Code, 2024 Edition, at least one (1) copy of which is on file in the office of the Building Official for public record and inspection, is hereby adopted by reference and made a part of this chapter as though set forth in this chapter in full, subject, however, to the amendments, additions and deletions set forth in this chapter. Said California Wildland-Urban Interface Code, as amended herein, shall be known as the Wildland-Urban Interface Code of the City.

Sec. 8-18.02. Deletions.¶
Sections 103, 104, 105, 106, 107, 108, 109, 110, 111, 112 and 113 of Chapter 1, Division II, and Chapters 3, 4, 6 and 7 of the California Wildland-Urban Interface Code are hereby deleted.

Sec. 8-18.03. Amendments: California Wildland-Urban Interface Code.¶
The City Council, after due consideration, finds and determines that due to the geographical location of the City and the unusual soil, geological and topographical conditions prevailing within the City, the public health and welfare would best be served by adopting and amending Chapter 1, Chapter 2 and Chapter 5 of the 2025 California Wildland-Urban Interface Code and therefore said California Wildland-Urban Interface Code is hereby amended as follows:
Section 101.2 “Scope” is amended to read as follows:
101.2 Scope.
The provisions of this code and Title 8, Chapter 4, the City of Thousand Oaks Code Administration shall apply to building materials, systems and/or assemblies used in the exterior design and construction of new buildings located within a wildland-urban interface (WUI) area.
Section 101.3 “Purpose” is amended as follows:
101.3 Purpose.
The purpose of this code is to establish minimum regulations for the safeguarding of life and for property protection. Regulations in this code are intended to mitigate the risk to life and structures from intrusion of fire from wildland fire exposures.
101.3.1.1 Application date and where required.
New buildings for which an application for a building permit is submitted on or after July 1, 2008, located in any Fire Hazard Severity Zone or Wildland-Urban Interface Area shall comply with this code, including all of the following areas:
(a) All unincorporated lands designated by the State Board of Forestry and Fire Protection as State Responsibility Area (SRA) including:
(i) Moderate Fire Hazard Severity Zones.
(ii) High Fire Hazard Severity Zones.
(iii) Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones.
(b) Land designated as a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone by cities and other local agencies.
(c) Land designated as a wildland-urban interface area by cities and other local agencies.
Exceptions:
New buildings located in any Fire Hazard Severity Zone within a State Responsibility Area, for which an application for a building permit is submitted on or after January 1, 2008, shall comply with this code.
New buildings located in any Fire Hazard Severity Zone within a State Responsibility Area or any wildland-urban interface area designated by cities and other local agencies for which an application for a building permit is submitted on or after December 1, 2005, but prior to July 1, 2008, shall only comply with the following sections of this chapter:
2.1. Section 507 – Replacement or Repair of Roof Coverings.¶
2.2. Section 504.10 – Vents.¶
