2.56.010 - Office.

The office of the city clerk is created by statute in the state of California.

2.56.020 - Powers and duties.

The city clerk shall exercise such powers and perform such duties as described in Chapter 2, Division 3, Title 4 of the California Government Code commencing with Section 40800 except as otherwise described by ordinance. These duties include keeping an accurate record of the proceeding of the legislative body; keeping a book marked "Ordinances" and record in it all city ordinances with the city clerk's certificate annexed to each stating that it is a true and correct copy of a city ordinance, the ordinance number, and that it has been published or posted pursuant to law; and maintaining custody of the city seal. The city clerk and his or her deputies may administer oaths or affirmations and take and certify affidavits and depositions pertaining to city affairs and business which may be used in any court or proceedings in the state. The city clerk shall exercise such additional powers and duties as the city council may establish by ordinance.

2.56.030 - Compensation.

Compensation of the city clerk and any deputies shall be fixed by the city council.
