1-7-1: MAYOR PRO TEMPORE; SELECTION:

The office of mayor pro tempore shall be for a two (2) year term. In every even year, on the first regular meeting of the city council in December of such year, or as soon thereafter as practicable upon the certification of election results from the general municipal election by the Fresno County registrar of voters for such year, whichever occurs later, the city council shall select one of its members as mayor pro tempore. The mayor pro tempore position shall be held by the city council member receiving a majority vote of the city council. Any city council person may nominate, and if seconded, the city council shall vote on the selection of one of its members as mayor pro tempore. Any member of the city council may vote for himself or herself to occupy the position of mayor pro tempore. In the event the person selected as mayor pro tempore shall die, resign, or cease to serve as a council member, a different council member shall be selected in the same manner to fill the unexpired term of his or her predecessor. 1-7-2: MAYOR PRO TEMPORE:

The mayor shall preside at the meetings of the council. If the mayor is absent or unable to act, the mayor pro tempore shall serve only until the mayor returns or is able to act. The mayor pro tempore shall have all of the powers and duties of the mayor in absence of the mayor. If the mayor and mayor pro tempore are both absent or unable to act, then the council shall appoint one of its members to serve as presiding officer until the mayor or mayor pro tempore returns or is able to act 1

The mayor may administer oaths and affirmations, take affidavits and certify them under his hand 1
