GENERAL PROVISIONS

This Chapter shall constitute a local traffic ordinance within the terms, purport and meaning of the Vehicle Code.

All rules and regulations authorized to be adopted by a local authority under the provisions of Article 3 in Chapter 1 of Division 11 of the Vehicle Code (commencing with Section 21100), as presently existing or as hereafter amended, may be adopted by resolution of the City Council.

Within a reasonable time after the adoption of any rule or regulation under this Chapter, the City Engineer shall instruct the Maintenance Director to install and thereafter maintain such traffic signs, signals, markings or other traffic control devices giving the appropriate notice of such rule or regulation in accordance with Sections 21351 and 21400 of the Vehicle Code.

The violation of any provision contained in this Chapter is hereby declared to be unlawful and shall constitute an infraction, subject to the penalties as prescribed in Chapter 3 of this Code.

The City Engineer shall be the designated City Traffic Engineer for purposes of Chapter 9 of this Code and for enforcement of relevant provisions of the Vehicle Code. (Added by Ord. 71-103 § 1, 1992)
