6.12.010 Definitions. ¶
For the purposes of this chapter:
- A. "Automobile sales yard" means any open area or place used for the sale of automobiles, automobile parts or accessories.

6.12.020 Permit - Required. ¶
No person shall establish or maintain any automobile sales yard upon any premises without first obtaining a permit from the chief of police so to do. (Prior code § 6501.3.)
6.12.030 Permit - Application. ¶
Application for permit to operate an auto sales yard shall be made at the office of the license collector on forms provided for by him. (Prior code § 6501.4.)
6.12.040 Permit - Health officer's approval prerequisite to issuance. ¶
No such permit shall be issued until the health officer has made a sanitary inspection of such automobile sales yard. Upon the completion of such sanitary inspection, if such yard complies with all the provisions of the health laws of the state of California and health ordinances of the city applicable thereto, such health officer shall endorse his approval upon the application for such permit. (Prior code § 6501.5.)
6.12.050 Permit - Approval by chief of fire department prerequisite to issuance. ¶
A. No such permit shall be issued until it shall have been approved by the chief of the fire department.
B. No such application shall be approved by the chief of the fire department until he is satisfied that the premises in question comply with all state laws and city ordinances dealing with the fire hazard connected with such automobile sales yard.

6.12.060 Fence requirements - Specifications. ¶
No automobile sales yard shall be maintained in the city unless the same shall be completely sur-

rounded by a substantial wire fence supported by substantial metal posts, or by a substantial chain carrier supported by substantial metal posts. The wire fence surrounding any such automobile sales yard hereafter opened shall consist of links of not less than three-quarters of an inch in diameter, and shall be not less than two feet in height. Any gate or opening in such fence or chain barrier shall be provided with suitable lock devices, and shall be kept securely locked whenever there is no person present in charge of such automobile sales yard. 6.12.070 Fence requirements - Exceptions. ¶
The requirements of Section 6.24.060 that such sales yards shall be completely surrounded by a substantial wire fence or chain barrier shall not apply to sales yards where an adult attendant is on duty in charge of such sales yard continuously for twenty-four hours during every day, including Sundays and Holidays, nor where said automobiles are displayed during the daytime, but are removed to a garage or building suitable for storage purposes at night, and said garage or building is kept securely locked with adequate locking devices. 6.12.080 Sanitary premises required. ¶
Each operator of an automobile sales yard shall keep the premises occupied by him in a clean and sanitary condition at all times, and shall so treat the surface of the ground upon which any such automobile sales yard is located as to effectively prevent the blowing or drifting of dust therefrom.
