6.04.010 Definitions generally. ¶
For the purpose of this title, certain words and phrases shall be construed as set forth in this chapter, unless it is apparent from the context that a different meaning is intended. (Prior code § 6201.1.)
6.04.020 Canvasser. ¶
"Canvasser" means any person not having an established place of business in the city who, for himself or as agent for another, goes upon any public street, or from house to house, in the city, soliciting orders or subscriptions for, or selling newspapers, magazines, periodicals, books and other publications, whether or not collecting advance payments on such subscription or sales. 6.04.040 Circus. ¶
"Circus" means an exhibition or entertainment at which feats of horsemanship, acrobatic feats and trained or wild animals are exhibited or displayed in the city, to which exhibition or entertainment an admission fee is charged. (Prior code § 6201.17.)
6.04.070 Garden sprinkler system. ¶
"Garden sprinkler system" means any apparatus or installation manufactured and designed to sprinkle lawns or gardens with water (excluding, however, ordinary garden hose and other moveable instrumentalities).

6.04.080 Garden sprinkler system dealer. ¶
"Garden sprinkler system dealer" means any person engaged in the business of installing, repairing or selling lawn or garden sprinkler systems, or parts thereof.

6.04.090 Health officer. ¶
"Health officer," as used in this Code, means and refers to the director of neighborhood preservation.

6.04.100 Minor repairs. ¶
6.04.030 Carnival. ¶
"Carnival" means an entertainment consisting of a collection of shows, exhibitions, feats of strength, merchandise booths, games of skill, ferris wheels, scenic-railways, merry-go-rounds, swings or
"Minor repairs" means adjustments of sprinklers, replacements of parts, repairing leaks, and similar work which does not involve rearrangement, or any new installation. (Prior code § 6201.23.)

6.04.110 Tobacco vending machine. ¶
"Tobacco vending machine" means any mechanical device or automatic vending machine in an operating condition, containing cigars, cigarettes or tobacco in any form. (Prior code § 6201.5.)
6.04.120 Trading stamps. ¶
"Trading stamps" means the business of selling or giving trading stamps or tickets of any kind redeemable in money, merchandise or any other thing, and so redeeming the same. (Prior code § 6201.32.)

6.08.010 Amusement device defined. ¶
6.04.130 Vending machine or automatic vending machine. ¶
"Vending machine" or "automatic vending machine" means any vending apparatus which, by mechanical means, produces for and gives to, the person who places coin or money or other representative of value therein the same return in personal property each and every time such machine is operated, by placing coin or money, or the representative of either therein.

An amusement device is any electrical or mechanical apparatus or device, or amusement ride machine which, upon insertion of a coin, slug or token in any slot or receptacle attached to or connected with said device or machine, operates or may be operated for use as a game, contest or amusement, including but not limited to "amusement game devices" as defined in Section 20.200.110 of Title 20 of this Code and exclusive of vending machines and games of chance or gambling devices, as defined in the California Penal Code.
