Article 2 — OBEDIENCE TO TRAFFIC REGULATIONS

SEC. 72.50. REQUIRED OBEDIENCE TO TRAFFIC ORDINANCE.

(a) Except as provided in subsection (b), any person performing any act forbidden or failing to perform any act required by this division shall be deemed guilty of an infraction.

(b) A person convicted of a third or subsequent violation of this division within two years from the date of the first conviction shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor.

(c) Each day on which a violation occurs or continues shall constitute a separate offense.

SEC. 72.51. PUBLIC EMPLOYEES TO OBEY TRAFFIC REGULATIONS.

The provisions of this division shall apply to the driver of any vehicle owned by or used in the service of the United States Government, this state, any county or city and it shall be unlawful for any said driver to violate any of the provisions of this division except as otherwise permitted in this division or by state statute.

SEC. 72.52. EXEMPTION OF CERTAIN VEHICLES.

(a) The provisions of this division regulating the operation, parking and standing of vehicles shall not apply to any vehicle that has qualified under the Vehicle Code as an authorized emergency vehicle, when any such vehicle is operated in the manner specified in the Vehicle Code in response to an emergency call.

(b) The foregoing exemption shall not, however, protect the driver of any such vehicle from the consequences of his willful disregard of the safety of others.

(c) The provisions of this division regulating parking or standing of vehicles shall not apply to any vehicle of the Road Department or Department of Public Works or of the State Department of Public Works while necessarily in use for construction or repair work on any highway or any vehicle owned by the United States while in use for the collection, transportation or delivery of the United States mail.
