Salinas Municipal Code § 16-28 Health examinations

(a) All persons who come in contact with or act as handlers in the sale of milk, packaged food, unwrapped food, meat, fish, fruit, or vegetables, shall exercise scrupulous cleanliness and shall not be afflicted with any communicable disease or in a condition to disseminate the germs of typhoid fever, tuberculosis, diphtheria, or any communicable disease liable to be conveyed by the milk, unpackaged food, unwrapped food, meat, fish, fruit, or vegetables.

(b) It shall be unlawful for any person affected with any infectious disease in a communicable form or knowing himself affected with such disease, to engage in or serve in the business of a food handler.

Any person who may be engaged in the work covered by this article shall, whenever required by the health officer or any of his deputies, submit to an examination for the purpose of determining whether or not such person has contracted any infectious or communicable disease, or whether or not such person has such disease, and it shall be unlawful for any such person to continue in the business of a food handler unless an examination be taken and such person found to be free from such disease. If such person be found to be affected with such disease, it shall be unlawful for such person to continue in his employment as food handler.

It shall be the duty of the owners, managers, or persons in control of such places of business to keep an accurate up-to-date list of all persons employed in the handling of food which shall be furnished to the health officer upon request.
