2.15.010 - Creation of police department.

There is created a police department for the city which shall consist of a chief of police and as many employees as the city council may designate from time to time.

2.15.040 - Powers and duties of chief of police.

The chief of police shall have the power and duty to assure that all members of the police department enforce all ordinances of the city and all federal and state statutes applicable to the police department of the city or that delegate the power of enforcement thereof to the police department of the city. The chief of police shall also have the power and duty to preserve order, to prevent infractions of the law and arrest violators thereof, and to suppress riot, public tumult, disturbance of the peace, or resistance against the laws or public authorities in the lawful exercise of their functions. Further, the chief of police shall have the powers and duties conferred upon sheriffs by general law and in all respects shall be entitled to the protection of general law in the same manner as that law protects sheriffs. The chief of police shall direct the administration and operations of the police department and in addition to policies transmitted to the chief of police by the city manager, shall establish such other policies, directives, rules, and regulations for the administration and operations of the department as the chief sees fit.

2.15.050 - Powers and duties that chief of police may delegate to civilian employees.

The chief of police shall have the power to delegate to civilian employees such powers and duties as shall enable them to preserve order and prevent infractions of the law and to suppress riot, public tumult, disturbance of the peace, or resistance against the laws or public authorities in the lawful exercise of their functions.
