2.20.010 - Established.

There is established the fire department of the town.

2.20.020 - Functions.

The functions of the fire department shall include:

A. To protect life and property by preventing and eliminating fire hazards and by controlling and extinguishing fires;

B. To enforce laws and ordinances relating to the preventing and extinguishing of fires and handling of potentially dangerous combustibles and explosives;

C. To investigate and report to the police department in all cases where there is reason to believe that any fire is the result of a crime or that a crime is committed in connection therewith;

D. To maintain in efficient operable condition those firefighting and fire prevention systems and facilities assigned to the fire department;

E. Subject to the prior approval of the town manager, to recruit and train such call firemen or other volunteer and auxiliary personnel as may reasonably be required to augment regular fire department manpower; and

F. To perform such other duties as the town manager may direct.

2.20.030 - Chief.

The fire department shall be headed by a fire chief who shall be responsible for the direction and control of all functions assigned to that department. The fire department shall be organized, maintained and operated by the fire chief under the general administrative direction and subject to the approval of the town manager.
