Lomita Municipal Code Ch. 4 Parking on Residential Front and Side Yards

Sec. 8-4.01. - Definitions.

For the purposes of this chapter, the following words and phrases used in this chapter shall have the meaning respectively ascribed to them in this section as follows:

(a) Driveway means a paved strip of land approved by the city, providing access from the street to a garage, carport or parking space, but not including that portion of the paved strip of land which lies within any property owned by the City of Lomita or over which the City of Lomita has an easement, and which has been dedicated for use as a public parkway or sidewalk.

(b) Front yard means the space on a lot or parcel of land, extending across the full width of same, between the street and a residential structure situated thereon.

(c) Park or parking means the standing of a vehicle whether occupied or not upon a front yard or on any side yard.

(d) Parking space means a paved area of sufficient size within a front yard or a side yard abutting a street, which has been approved by the city after site plan review by the planning commission under the terms of the zoning ordinance of the Lomita Municipal Code, to be used for the express purpose of parking.

(e) Side yard means the space on a lot or parcel of land, extending from the front yard to the rear property line on either side of a residential structure.

(f) Vehicle means an automobile, motorcycle, vehicle driven by the handicapped, motor-home, and any other power-operated equipment/machine customarily used for transportation and/or recreation.

Sec. 8-4.02. - Prohibited.

(a) It shall be unlawful for any person to park a vehicle in the front yard area of any residentially used lot or parcel of land except on an approved driveway or parking space.

(b) Parking of vehicles in the rear and side yard areas is subject to article 66, section 11-1.66-09 of the City of Lomita Zoning Ordinance.

Sec. 8-4.03. - Infraction.

Whenever in this chapter any act is prohibited or is made or declared to be unlawful or an offense or the doing of any act is required or the failure to do any act is declared to be unlawful, the violation of any such provision is declared to be an infraction and shall be punishable in the manner provided for by law.
