7.20.010 - Authority

This chapter is enacted pursuant to California Harbors and Navigation Code section 660, to provide for and to protect the public health, safety and those living adjacent to the Sacramento River.

7.20.020 - Definitions

A. Personal watercraft means and includes, pursuant to federal law, jet skis, water cycles and similar devices.

B. Vessels means any watercraft of any type or size used or capable of being used as a means of transportation on water, including but not limited to barges, ferry boats, yachts or rafts.

7.20.030 - Speed limit zone

No person shall operate a boat, vessel or personal watercraft, including documented or undocumented vessels, in excess of five miles per hour, or that part of the waters of the Sacramento River that are within the city limits of the city. Said area shall be designated with signs and/or buoys bearing the words "5 MPH."

7.20.040 - Exemptions

The speed limit contained in this chapter shall not apply to any vessel, owned and/or operated by any branch of the United States Military, Department of Fish and Game, Army Corps of Engineers, any stated of federal public safety agency, Sacramento County Sheriff's Office or the city police, the use of such vessel being reasonably necessary in the performance of official duties.

7.20.050 - Penalty

Any person who violates this chapter, upon conviction, shall be punished in accordance with law.
