Sec. 66-301. - Purpose.

The city currently has a number of communities located behind gated private streets wherein adequate provision for entry by emergency vehicles, both police and fire, has not been maintained. Persons and structures located behind private gates wherein access is not available to the police and fire department creates an inherently dangerous condition for such persons and structures, which requires immediate correction. The purpose of this article is to address and correct these issues.

Sec. 66-302. - Emergency access.

It shall be unlawful to gate or maintain any gate on a private street within the city unless such gate or gates provide emergency access with the installation of a Knox Box system or other similar method approved by the fire department.

Sec. 66-303. - Where article shall not apply.

This article shall not apply where all structures behind a gate are owned and occupied by no more than one individual.
