§ 3.56.010 DEFINITIONS.

For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.

PRIVATE SECURITY GUARD. Any individual employed and/or assigned for the purpose of providing protection to persons or property or regulating activities at any private facility open to the public.

STREET PATROL SERVICE. A person or business entity going from property to property or along a public street, alley or other public way by one or more persons, for the purpose of watching a property or buildings to protect any interest of the owners or occupants.

STREET PATROL SPECIAL OFFICER. Any individual providing the street patrol services as defined above.

§ 3.56.020 REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

No person shall conduct or operate a street patrol service, act as a street patrol special officer or a private security guard in the city, without first registering with the Police Department.

§ 3.56.030 UNIFORMS.

No street patrol special officer or private security officer shall wear a uniform substantially similar to the official uniform worn by members of the City Police Department while operating in the city. The wearing of a navy blue police-style uniform is prohibited.

§ 3.56.040 PENALTY.

Any violation of this chapter is a misdemeanor.

§ 3.56.050 EFFECTIVE DATE.

All persons and business entities affected by this chapter shall comply with the requirements of this chapter within 60 calendar days from the effective date of this chapter or by January 1, 1999, whichever date occurs first.
