8.12.420 - Wrapping, boxing, dating and labeling on premises of preparation.

Every sandwich, other than those included within box lunches, and box lunches intended for sale, gift or distribution to the public at a place other than on the premises where prepared shall be securely boxed or labeled and dated in the establishment where it is prepared.

8.12.430 - Dating and labeling requirements for sandwiches and box lunches.

The wrapper for every sandwich, other than those included in box lunches, and container for every box lunch intended for sale, gift or distribution to the public shall bear in print thereon both the phrase, "Day Prepared for" in six point, bold face, upper case letters or larger and also the day of the week on which such sandwich or box lunch was intended to be consumed, and the name and address of the establishment which prepared such sandwich or box lunch, in ten point, bold face, upper case letters or larger. It is sufficient for purposes of this section to print "SU, MO, TU, WE, TH, FR, SA" on such sandwich or box lunch, designating the day of intended consumption by punching, perforating, or otherwise marking in a fashion acceptable to the city health officer the appropriate initials.

8.12.440 - Consumption date.

No sandwich or box lunch shall be made available for consumption by the public more than twenty-four (24) hours after the time that such sandwich or box lunch has been prepared, except as provided otherwise in this chapter.

8.12.450 - Sandwiches and box lunches exempt from requirements.

The following sandwiches and box lunches are exempt from the requirements of Section 8.12.430 and Section 8.12.440:

A. Sandwiches or box lunches kept refrigerated at a temperature of forty-five (45) degrees Fahrenheit or below in a freezer or storage locker, other than a vending machine, located at a fixed place, from where such sandwiches or box lunches are sold, given or distributed to the public.

B. Sandwiches or box lunches kept in and dispensed from vending machines with proper refrigeration facilities which maintain a temperature of forty-five (45) degrees Fahrenheit or below.

8.12.460 - Consumption date and code dating of exempt categories of sandwiches and box lunches.

Sandwiches and box lunches of the categories described in Section 8.12.450 shall be prepared and made available for consumption by the public only for such length of time as the city health officer shall approve by rule or regulation. All such sandwiches and box lunches shall bear in a code approved by the city health officer the date by which such sandwich must either be consumed or destroyed.

8.12.470 - Dating of foods intended to be heated.

Packaged foods such as meat pies, stews, T.V. dinners, and the like which are intended to be heated and sold hot from industrial catering vehicles shall bear in a manner approved by the city health officer the date by which such foods are to be consumed.

8.12.480 - Legibility of date.

Every sandwich, box lunch, and other food to which this article applies shall bear only a single consumption date, which date shall at all times be maintained legible.

8.12.490 - Reuse.

No sandwich, box lunch, or other food to which this article applies shall, once having been opened, be rewrapped or reboxed and offered to the public.
