5.08.010 - Register to be kept—Proprietor's duties—Unlawful Acts.¶
Every Person conducting any lodging house or Hotel in the City Shall at all times keep and maintain therein a Hotel register, in which Shall be inscribed with ink the name and home Street and Town address of each and every Guest or Person Renting or occupying a room or rooms therein. Such register Shall be signed by the Person Renting a room or rooms and the proprietor of such lodging house or Hotel or his or her agents Shall thereupon write opposite such name or names so registered the number of each room assigned to and occupied by each such Guest, together with the time when such room is Rented; and until all of the aforesaid entries have been made in such register, no such Guest Shall be Permitted to occupy privately any room in such house. When the Occupant or Occupants of each room so Rented Shall quit and surrender the same it Shall be the further duty of the proprietor of such Hotel or his or her agent to enter the time thereof in such register opposite the name of such Occupant or Occupants. It is unlawful for any Person except as provided in this chapter to let for sleeping or lodging purposes any room in any lodging house or Hotel in the City more than once between the hours of six in the evening and six in the morning of the next Day except to bona fide travelers with baggage. Erasures or Alterations on the register Shall not be Permitted or made for any purpose and it is unlawful to erase or obliterate a name or names or address or addresses or to Permit the same. Such register Shall be kept at all times open to the inspection of any Guest of such house or Hotel wherein such register is kept and of any peace officer.

5.08.020 - Falsifying register—Persons wilfully writing untrue name or Designation prohibited.¶
It is unlawful for any Person to write, or cause to be Written, or knowingly Permit to be Written, in any register in any lodging house or Hotel in the City, any other or different name or Designation than the true name or Designation of the Person registering therein, or the true name or Designation of a member of his or her immediate Family.

5.08.030 - Falsifying register—Wilfully writing another's untrue name or Designation prohibited.¶
It is unlawful for any Person to write, cause to be Written or Permit to be Written a false or untrue name or Designation of any Person whomsoever in any register of any lodging house or Hotel in the City.

5.08.040 - Reserved.¶
Editor's note— Ord. No. O-03-24, § 2, adopted March 19, 2024, repealed § 5.08.040, which pertained to persons of the opposite sex jointly occupying rooms prohibited—exceptions and derived from Ord. 837 § 4, 1953.
5.08.050 - Penalty for Violation.¶
Every Person violating any of the provisions of this chapter is guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof Shall be punished by a fine of not exceeding three hundred dollars, or by imprisonment in the City or County Jail for not exceeding ninety Days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
