Colton Municipal Code Ch. 15.36 Fire Hydrant Capacity

The Council finds that adequate fire hydrants with sufficient water pressure and volume are necessary prerequisites for the public health, safety, welfare and enjoyment of Property within the City, and conversely, that the lack of these Improvements is injurious to the safety and welfare of the inhabitants of Colton.

No change May be made in the Occupancy or Use of any Building which would place the Building in a different Division of the same group of occupancies or in a different group of occupancies, as defined by the edition of the Uniform Building Code then in effect, nor May any Building Permit be Used for any addition to a Building which will increase the area of the Building by more than twenty-five percent of its existing area, nor Shall any Permit be issued for the construction of a Building, Structure, or Dwelling unless provisions are made for the construction and installation of such water lines and fire hydrants as are determined by the Department of Public Works to be necessary to provide necessary fire flow in accordance with City Standards.

Upon Written recommendation of the City Fire Chief, the City Engineer or his Designee May in his discretion authorize the construction and installation of water lines and fire hydrants by the Property Owner at a later date upon notification from the City pursuant to the terms of a lien agreement prepared by the City to secure performance of the work. In such event, the Property Owner Shall pay a Fee for preparation of the lien agreement in an amount determined by Resolution of the City Council.
