10.04.010 - Generally.¶
The following words and phrases when used in this title shall for the purposes of this title have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in this chapter.

10.04.020 - Words Not Defined—Motor Vehicle Code Definitions Used.¶
Whenever any words or phrases used in this title are not defined, but are defined in the Vehicle Code of the state of California and amendments thereto, such definitions shall apply.

10.04.030 - Bicycle.¶
"Bicycle" means a light vehicle without a motor, having two (2) wheels, handlebars and a seat or seats, and propelled by the operator.

10.04.040 - Coach.¶
"Coach" means any motor bus, motor coach, trackless trolley, or passenger stage used as a common carrier of passengers.

10.04.050 - Curb.¶
"Curb" means the lateral boundary of the roadway whether such curb is marked by curbing construction, or not so marked. "Curb" as used in this title shall not include the line dividing the roadway of a street from parking strips in the center of a street, nor from the tracks or right-of-way of public utility companies.

10.04.055 - Public Parking Facility.¶
Public Parking Facility" means any public parking lot or parking structure owned or otherwise possessed by the City in which parking by the general public is permitted by the City.

10.04.060 - Divisional Island.¶
"Divisional island" means a raised island located in the roadway and separating opposing or conflicting streams of traffic.

10.04.070 - Holidays.¶
"Holidays," within the meaning of this title, are the first day of January, the twenty-second of February, the thirtieth day of May, the fourth day of July, the first Monday in September, the ninth day of September, the eleventh day of November, the twenty-fifth day of December, and Thanksgiving Day. If the first day of January, the twenty-second day of February, the thirtieth day of May, the fourth day of July, the ninth day of September, the eleventh day of November or the twenty-fifth day of December falls upon a Sunday, the Monday following is a holiday.

10.04.080 - Loading Zone.¶
"Loading zone" means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers or materials.

10.04.090 - Official Time Standard.¶
Whenever certain hours are named in this title, they shall mean standard time or daylight saving time as may be in current use in this city.

10.04.100 - Park.¶
"Park" means to stand or leave standing any vehicle, whether occupied or not, otherwise then temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading passengers or materials.

10.04.110 - Parking Meter.¶
"Parking meter" means a mechanical device installed within or upon the curb or sidewalk area, immediately adjacent to a parking space, for the purpose of controlling the period of time of occupancy of such parking meter space by any vehicle.

10.04.120 - Parkway.¶
"Parkway" means that portion of a street other than a roadway or a sidewalk.

10.04.130 - Passenger Loading Zone.¶
"Passenger loading zone" means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers.

10.04.140 - Pedestrian.¶
"Pedestrian" means any person afoot.

10.04.150 - Police Officer.¶
"Police officer" means every officer of the police department of this city or any officer authorized to direct or regulate traffic or to make arrests for violations of traffic regulations.

10.04.160 - Stop.¶
"Stop", when required, means complete cessation of movement.

10.04.170 - Stop or Stand.¶
"Stop or stand", when prohibited, means any stopping or standing of a vehicle whether occupied or not, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the directions of a police officer or official traffic-control device.

10.04.180 - Vehicle Code.¶
"Vehicle Code" means the Vehicle Code of the State of California.
