Carpinteria Municipal Code Ch. 15.04 Definitions

Whenever in this title or in any of the codes adopted hereby the following names or terms as set forth in this chapter are used, they shall have the meanings ascribed to them as set forth in this chapter.

"Apartment house" means and includes all community apartment, condominium, town, or rowhouse buildings having three or more dwelling units in a single building or connected buildings.

"Building department," "department having jurisdiction," "division," and all other terms designating a branch or department of a local governmental agency having authority to act, unless expressly indicated otherwise, means the building division function of the city and its personnel.

"Building official," "chief electrical inspector," "chief mechanical inspector," "chief plumbing inspector," "plumbing official," "administrative authority," and all other terms and designations indicating the person authorized and directed to carry out, enforce, and exercise government rights, privileges, and duties shall, unless expressly indicated otherwise, mean the city manager and any duly authorized deputies, assistants and inspectors.

"Carport" means a structure used to cover one or more automobiles and which is fully open on two sides, or at least fifty percent open on all sides.

"City," "municipality," "county," and other terms designating the local governmental entity having jurisdiction, mean the city of Carpinteria.

"City clerk" means the city clerk.

"Housing law," "housing act," "state housing law," or "state housing act," mean the state housing law now set out in the state Health and Safety Code and state Administrative Code as the same now is or hereafter shall be amended.

"Person, firm or corporation" means any and all entities of whatsoever nature or kind, including but not limited to individuals, corporations, partnerships whether general or limited, unincorporated associations, unions or organizations, cooperatives, and trusts, and shall include the plural as well as the singular number, the male and female gender, and all governmental entities subject in whole or in part to this title and the codes adopted by reference in this title.
