6.16.010 - Vaccination requirements.

It is unlawful for any person to own, keep, harbor, have an interest in or possess a dog in the city unless such dog has been vaccinated with canine rabies vaccine by an approved method within a period of twelve months and is officially tagged as provided in Section 6.16.040.

6.16.020 - Who may vaccinate.

The vaccinations required by Section 6.16.010 shall be performed by any duly qualified and licensed physician or veterinarian.

6.16.030 - Certificates of vaccination.

The persons vaccinating any dog not meeting the requirements of Section 6.16.010 shall issue certificates of vaccination on blanks furnished by the city.

6.16.040 - Vaccination tag.

Every person owning or having custody or control of any dog vaccinated in accordance with this chapter shall present the certificate of vaccination designated in Section 6.16.030 to the city clerk who shall issue an official vaccination tag, which shall be securely fastened to be worn at all times by said dog in addition to the license tag provided in Chapter 6.04.

6.16.050 - Seizure of unvaccinated dog.

The police department of the city, and every officer thereof, and the dogcatcher shall, and they and each or any of them are authorized and empowered to, capture any dog not vaccinated as required by the chapter and which is found going free or running at large in and upon any public place or unenclosed area within the corporate limits of the city. Such dog shall be forthwith transported to the city pound.

6.16.060 - Destruction of unvaccinated dogs.

Upon satisfactory proof that it has not been vaccinated as required by this chapter, and after forty-eight hours' notice to the owner or keeper of such dog, if known, such dog shall be killed and destroyed in a humane manner.
