13.20.010 - Permitting.

Permits for a projecting sign shall be considered as part of the administrative permit process defined in Section 13.08.060.

13.20.020 - General Standards.

(a) Projecting signs shall be permitted as secondary identification signs (in addition to wall signs) for sites with a high degree of pedestrian traffic and where the view of the primary sign by pedestrians is limited.

(b) Projecting signs may be used as primary signs for buildings that do not possess adequate areas with proper visibility for the location of other types of identification signs.

(c) Projecting signs shall be placed perpendicular to the building frontage and shall not extend above the level of the building eave of a sloped roof or highest point on a flat roof.

13.20.030 - Area limitations.

Projecting signs shall not exceed fifty (50) square feet each side. Only one such sign shall be allowed per each street frontage.

13.20.040 - Projection over public property.

A projecting sign shall not project over any public sidewalk or street except as may be permitted in the Historic District and compatible with existing projecting signs. Signs projecting over public property, if permitted, shall comply with the minimum standard set forth in the latest edition of the California Building Code and the California Electric al Code. In no event shall the clearance be less than ten (10) feet unless a use permit is obtained.

13.20.050 - Extension from pole, wall or buildings.

No projecting sign shall be erected with the nearest portion of the sign face extending a greater distance than eighteen (18) inches from the pole or wall or building to which it is attached.

13.20.060 - Wind pressure requirements.

All projecting signs shall be constructed to withstand a minimum wind pressure of twenty (20) pounds per square foot. Any projecting sign more than thirty five (35) feet in total height shall be constructed to withstand a wind pressure of thirty (30) pounds per square foot.
