§ 17.84.010. General provisions. ¶
The following regulations apply in all districts unless otherwise noted. With regard to the planned development zone (P-D), the regulations regarding the keeping of animals shall be as specified in that particular zone or, if not specified, as allowed by the zone with which the P-D zone is combined.
- A. Small Domestic Animals.
Up to four small domestic animals may be kept on any parcel. Small animals customarily kept as indoor pets, such as parakeets, canaries, hamsters, mice, small reptiles, fish, etc. which are not classified as exotic animals are not restricted under the terms of this title as long as they are kept continuously indoors.
- B. Large Domestic Animals.
Large domestic animals shall be permitted as follows:
The minimum lot size for the keeping of any large domestic animal shall be one acre.
One large domestic animal may be kept on a lot for each twenty thousand (20,000) gross square feet of lot size.
Fencing and Enclosure Regulations For Large Animals.
a. All large animals shall be kept in an area which is fenced so as to prevent the animals from roaming.
b. Within the fenced area, an enclosure or shed shall be provided of sufficient size to provide cover for the large animals kept on the parcel.
c. No part of the large animal enclosure shall be located within fifty (50) feet of any neighboring dwelling, within the front yard setback, or within twenty (20) feet of a side or rear property line.
Exotic Animals.
Exotic animals may only be permitted in A-1 (general agriculture) and R-R (rural residential) districts subject to obtaining approval of the zoning administrator.
- Public Nuisance.
Animal fecal matter in excess of that which can be safely and sanitarily utilized on the premises shall be removed and shall not be allowed to accumulate. (prior code § 8-1.6006; Ord. 97-03 § 2 (part))
