6.150.400 Rate setting.

A. The city council will, on its own motion or upon an operator’s application investigate a single rate or fare, or the entire schedule of fares in effect, charged, demanded or collected for the transportation of passengers by taxicabs and, if deemed appropriate following notice and a public hearing, establish a new rate, fare, or schedule of fares.

B. No operator, or any agent or employee thereof, or any driver or operator of any vehicle covered by this chapter, will charge, collect, demand, receive, arrange, solicit, or bargain for any amount of compensation other than the rates or fares established and authorized by the city council.

C. The city council at annual intervals may, by resolution, after notice and public hearing, establish a schedule of maximum rates to be charged by all operators operating under this chapter. In setting such maximum rate schedules, the city council may review and consider the average rates for taxicab service charged in the city as well as in neighboring jurisdictions, and any other factors which it deems relevant to its determination. 6.150.410 Rate restrictions.

A. Rates may be set for distance traveled and for waiting time. No charge will be made for the time consumed by the premature response to a call or for the first three minutes following timely arrival at any location in response to a call or for delays caused by the inefficiency of the taxicab or its driver.

B. Where there are two or more passengers for different destinations, the passenger who first reaches their destination will pay the meter charge, and the taxi meter will be started to determine the charge to be made to the passenger next reaching their destination.

C. There will be no charge made for extra passengers for the same destination.

D. There will be no extra charge for hand luggage. (Ord. No. 2000-12, § 3, 5-9-00)
